GREENSBORO, N.C. – Brevard (4-3, 2-2 USAS) bounced back in a big way on the road, scoring 34 unanswered against in-state foe Greensboro (1-6, 0-4 USAS) after allowing a touchdown to open the game, taking down the Pride, 34-7.
The win marks BC's third win this season after a loss, responding to a tight defeat at the hands of LaGrange last week.
Greensboro came out of the gates strong, leading an 11-play, 61-yard drive eating 6 minutes and nine seconds of clock. The Pride ended the drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Cameron Turner to Jayden Morrison, taking a 7-0 lead with 8:51 to play in the first quarter.
Brevard would go three-and-out on its opening drive, but Greensboro would muff the Samuel Vargas punt on its own 23-yardline, and Braedyn Perez jumped on the loose ball to set the Tornados up deep in Pride territory. Jeremyah Lane would find the endzone on the ensuing play on a 23-yard rushing touchdown, but the extra point was missed, making it 7-6.
The Pride led another lengthy drive, running 11 plays to reach Brevard's 23-yardline before the quarter break, where it would be 4th-and-3 at the start of the second quarter. The Tornado defense would stand tall after the break, stopping Kyjuan Westmoreland short of the line to gain, forcing a turnover on downs deep in their own territory.
The Tornados moved their way into Greensboro territory quickly, highlighted by a 54-yard connection between Ethan Beamish and Alex Bolton to get BC to the Pride 26-yardline. Zion Fauntleroy-McDaniel waltzed into the endzone on the next play to give Brevard the lead. A failed two-point conversion kept the tally at 12-7 in favor of BC.
Greensboro would lead its longest drive of the game following the Brevard touchdown, running 16 plays to get to the Brevard 9-yardline. However, the Tornado defense came up big again, as Baylee Ramey got in the backfield on 4th-and-9, sacking Cameron Turner for a loss of 11 yards and a turnover on downs. The Pride drive lasted over nine minutes, but the Brevard lead stayed intact.
Taking over on its own 20, the Brevard offense used most of the remaining 3:06 in the half, running 11 plays for 80 yards, capped off by a 20-yard pitch-and-catch between Beamish and Christian Roberson for six. Beamish called his own number on the two-point conversion, taking it himself on the rush to make it 20-7.
Brevard wasted no time in the second half, bursting up the middle for a 90-yard kick return to extend the Tornado lead to 27-7.
Greensboro went three-and-out on the drive to open the half, giving Brevard the ball back up two scores. Brevard's next drive came up empty as well, with Beamish throwing incomplete on the ninth play of the drive, turning it over on downs.
However, Brevard's defense thwarted another 11-play drive deep in Tornado territory. With the ball on BC's 18-yardline, Robert Dorsey got home, sacking Turner for a loss of seven on 4th-and-18, allowing BC to take over with less than five minutes to play in the third quarter.
Despite getting the ball to the Greensboro 15, courtesy of 26 rushing yards from Rayshawn Williams and a 31-yard completion from Beamish to Adam Douglas, the Tornados missed a 32-yard field goal as the score remained 27-7 entering the fourth.
Each team came up empty to start the fourth with a Greensboro punt and a Brevard fumble. Despite the Tornado miscue, Greensboro was once again stopped on fourth down in Brevard territory, as Obadiah Grimes sacked Turner on 4th-and-10 to end a 12-play drive at the BC 44.
The Tornados landed its final blow, as Rayshawn Williams chewed up all 56 yards on the drive, with 36 coming on the second play of the drive. Williams capped off the Tornado drive with a four-yard touchdown rush to make it 34-7.
Both sides would remain scoreless the rest of the way, as Brevard punctuated an emphatic road win to move to .500 in USA South play.
Beamish was stellar through the air, going 8-for-15 for 136 yards and a touchdown. Douglas led the way with four receptions for 50 yards and Alex Bolton tallied a catch for 54 yards. Christian Roberson, Emarea Fowler, and Rayshawn Williams all recorded a catch.
Williams led the charge on the ground with 14 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown, gaining an impressive 8.9 yards per carry. Zion Fauntleroy-McDaniel added 72 yards, and Jeremyah Lane found the endzone on the ground.
Defensively, Baylee Ramey continued his stellar stretch, leading Brevard with 13 tackles and a TFL. Robert Dorsey was consistently in the backfield, tallying eight tackles with three for loss. Carter Raulerson had six tackles, while Obadiah Grimes, Quintrell Bowman, and Will Hadden recorded five.
Brevard returns home after back-to-back weeks on the road to duel with Huntingdon at 1 pm at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
