SWANNANOA, N.C. – Brevard College (10-0-0) used four first-half goals to cruise past Warren Wilson (2-7-2) 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Hank Steinbrecher Field.
With the triumph, Brevard extends its unbeaten streak to 28 matches dating to the end of the 2023 season. Through 10 matches this fall, Brevard has outscored opponents 51-2 and continues to rank among the nation's statistical leaders. BC's 10 wins to start the 2025 campaign is also the program's best-ever start to a season in the NCAA era.
Sophomore midfielder
Brennan Howell scored two goals for the second time in her collegiate career. Senior forward
Mikayla Zvekan scored her 10th goal of 2025 and distributed a pair of assists to Howell for four total points, and sophomore defender
Sophia DePasquale ripped a shot from distance for her first collegiate score. The senior goalkeeping trio of
Nico Arroyo,
Zoe Hughes, and
Mackenzie Lozano combined for BC's eighth shutout of the season.
The Tornados got off to a quick start as
Izzy Hagen fed Zvekan in the box, and the senior beat WWC's keeper to the ball for the first score of the game in the fifth minute of action. Under five minutes later, Zvekan dished a cross into the box that was converted by Howell, doubling BC's lead.
A terrific through ball from
Carissa Jenkins played in Zvekan, who immediately crossed to the far post where Howell was awaiting her second goal of the contest, pushing Brevard to a 3-0 edge in the 27th minute.
Just over 30 seconds later, DePasquale hit a long-range shot attempt that added onto BC's dominant early lead.
BC held an 11-2 shot advantage in the first half of play, and put eight of its 11 attempts on target. Zvekan led all players with six shot attempts.
The Tornado defense applied pressure throughout the match, with Arroyo and Lozano each making saves in the matchup to keep the shutout intact for Brevard. BC finished with a 19-4 shot advantage and put 11 total attempts on target.
Brevard now gears up for a key conference test as the Tornados host Mary Baldwin this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field, part of Homecoming 2025 festivities on the BC campus.
