BREVARD, N.C. – Six Brevard College women's soccer student-athletes were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, matching a program record set in both 2022 and 2023. Brevard women's soccer has earned 23 Academic All-District selections over the past four seasons.
Senior midfielder
Kiara Porcelli earns the third Academic All-District nod of her collegiate career, joined by junior defender
MK Smoak, who was selected for the second-straight campaign. Four first-time honorees –
Catie Barton,
Sophia DePasquale,
Brennan Howell, and
Abby Nunez – round out the six Tornados chosen for the prestigious distinction.
Porcelli, a senior from Venice, Fla., has now secured Academic All-District honors in her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons – making her the most recognized Tornado in program history by College Sports Communicators. The midfielder played and started in all 20 games in 2025 en route to an All-Conference Second Team honor, while also earning All-Tournament Team accolades. A Childhood Education major at BC, Porcelli has appeared in 73 career matches with 67 starts, scoring 18 career goals with 12 assists for 48 points in her Tornado career.
Smoak, a junior from Charleston, S.C., majoring in Health Science, secures Academic All-District honors for the second-straight season after a debut appearance in her sophomore campaign. A USA South All-Conference Second Team honoree in 2025, the center back competed in 19 matches with 18 starts as a crucial part of Brevard's stout defense that recorded 15 clean sheets this past season.
Barton, a sophomore Exercise Science major from Fletcher, N.C., makes her first career appearance on the Academic All-District Team. The forward competed in all 20 matches this past season with a pair of starts, scoring five goals with two assists for 12 total points.
DePasquale, a sophomore defender from Annandale, Va., majoring in Business & Organizational Leadership, appeared in 19 matches with 18 starts for the Tornados. A strong showing in the USA South Conference Tournament led to All-Tournament Team honors for DePasquale, who was involved in 15 shutouts for the Tornado defense.
Howell, a fellow sophomore forward from Youngsville, N.C., also makes her debut appearance on CSC's prestigious list. A Health Science major at BC, Howell scored six times with six assists for 18 points in 2025, appearing in all 20 contests with seven starts for the Tornados.
Nunez, a junior goalkeeper from Homestead, Fla., earns her first career Academic All-District nod. The back-to-back USA South Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, Nunez earned All-Conference First Team, All-Tournament Team, and Tournament Most Valuable Player accolades in 2025 as one of the nation's premier shot-stoppers. Nunez, an Exercise Science major at BC, led the USA South with a 0.36 goals against average and a 90.2% save percentage, registered six solo shutouts, and made 46 saves. In her three-season Tornado career, Nunez has played over 2,800 minutes in goal, making 97 saves with a 90.7% save percentage, 17 solo shutouts, a 0.32 goals against average, and an overall record of 25-3-5. For her stellar athletic and academic performance, Nunez will now advance to CSC's Academic All-America ballot.
The BC women's soccer team recently concluded a historic 2025 campaign in which the Tornados repeated as USA South Conference Regular Season Champions with an undefeated 16-0-0 record in the regular season. The Tornados followed that up with the program's first USA South Conference Tournament title and appearance in the 2025 NCAA DIII Championship Tournament.
The 2025 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
