BREVARD, N.C. – Senior forward
Mikayla Zvekan notched her nation-leading 11
th game-winning goal, while a goal from
Brennan Howell and a pair of scores by
Kinlee Mozley helped the Brevard College women's soccer team (18-0-0) glide past Mary Baldwin (11-6-1) 4-0 in the USA South Conference Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
The Tornados now advance to the USA South Conference Tournament Championship for the second time in the last three seasons, which BC will host for the first time in program history. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 8.
Zvekan, the USA South Player of the Year, scored her 21
st goal of her record 2025 campaign in the 15
th minute off a cross by
Olivia Guillermo, as the Tornado attack wasted no time asserting itself in the match. Guillermo settled a blocked shot attempt and whipped the ball to the middle of the box where Zvekan was awaiting the first score of the afternoon.
BC totaled 13 total shots in the first half, but the Fighting Squirrels kept the Tornados out of the back of the net as the two sides went into the second half with Brevard on top by one.
Zvekan distributed her 10
th assist of 2025 in the 59
th minute of play, evading the MBU defense on the near sideline and crossing the ball towards Howell, who connected for her sixth goal of the year to double BC's advantage.
Just over four minutes later, freshman midfielder
Carissa Jenkins fed a through ball down the middle to Mozley, who scored her first of two goals in the match as the Tornados took a commanding 3-0 edge.
In the 73
rd minute off BC's fifth corner of the afternoon, Mozley directed the ball from the near side flag directly into the back of the net, notching her 12
th goal of 2025.
Abby Nunez stopped the lone shot attempt that she faced, as the back-to-back USA South Goalkeeper of the Year completed her fifth solo shutout and 10
th overall clean sheet of the season, as BC's defense notched its 14
th shutout in 18 matches this year.
With the semifinal triumph, Brevard's unbeaten streak now reaches 36 matches — the second-longest active unbeaten streak in NCAA Division III women's soccer and the second-longest active streak across all divisions of NCAA women's soccer. BC's 31-match home unbeaten streak will be put to the test in the Final on Saturday, a stretch that began on Oct. 18, 2022.
Through 18 matches this fall, the Tornados have outscored opponents 75-4 and continue to rank among the nation's statistical leaders both individually and as a team. BC's 18 wins to start the 2025 campaign give the Tornados far and away the best start to a season in program history during the NCAA era.
This past Monday, the BC women's soccer team earned three major awards and seven selections onto the USA South All-Conference Team for the second consecutive season.
Zvekan was selected as BC women's soccer's first-ever USA South Player of the Year, while Nunez collected Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second-straight season. Head Coach
Juan Mascaro rounded out BC's major awards with his second consecutive nod as Coach of the Year.
Zvekan and Nunez were placed on the All-Conference First Team, joined by
Mikaela Edwards and
Mikayla Rubin. Mozley,
Kiara Porcelli, and
MK Smoak all earned All-Conference Second Team accolades, while
Julia Needelman was selected as BC's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
