Juan Mascaro

Juan Mascaro concluded his 10th season leading the Brevard College women's soccer program in 2025, and 17th overall as a head coach at BC.

Mascaro's 10th season leading Tornado women's soccer resulted in the program's first appearance in the NCAA Divison III Women's Socceer Championship Tournament Appearance, after the Tornados earned their second-straight USA South Conference Regular Season Championship and secured the program's first-ever USA South Conference Tounament Title. Brevard went through the regular season without suffering a single defeat or tie, going 16-0-0, and finished the 2025 campaign with an 18-1-1 overall record.

BC completed consecutive unbeaten regular seasons, and in 2025, finished off its first regular season without a loss or a tie since the 1996 and 1997 NJCAA National Championship BC women's soccer teams. Brevard garnered the program's highest-ever finish in the NCAA NPI rankings at 34th, with the Tornados topping the tabulations at 30th this season. BC also appeared in the NCAA Region VI and the United Soccer Coaches DIII Region VI rankings for the first time in school history.

Plenty of USA South Conference honors were bestowed on the Tornados in 2025. Mascaro eached 100 career wins with BCWS and earned USA South Coach of the Year accolades for the second consecutive season. Mikayla Zvekan was selected as BC women's soccer's first-ever USA South Player of the Year, while Abby Nunez collected Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second-straight season.

USA South All-Conference accolades were also doled out in plenty. Zvekan and Nunez were placed on the All-Conference First Team, joined by Mikaela Edwards and Mikayla RubinKinlee MozleyKiara Porcelli, and MK Smoak all earned All-Conference Second Team accolades. During the regular season, Nunez secured Defender of the Week honors three times, Zvekan was selected as Player of the Week twice, and Mozley was also voted as Player of the Week. Zvekan was honored by TopDrawerSoccer.com with National Player of the Week honors as well.

Brevard closed out the regular season and conference postseason top-five in several team statistical categories, including goals-against average (second, 0.208), won-lost-tied percentage (second, 0.974), assists per game (second, 3.63), save percentage (second, 0.935), shots per game (third, 25.58), points per game (fourth, 11.53), and shutout percentage (fourth, 0.789).

Zvekan, the USA South Conference Player of the Year, leads all of NCAA DIII with 11 game-winning goals, and is top-10 in several categories including total points (third, 51), points per game (third, 2.74), shots on goal per game (fourth, 3.37), total goals (fourth, 21), shots per game (fifth, 5.89), and goals per game (fifth, 1.11). Nunez, who garnered Goalkeeper of the Year accolades from the USA South for the second consecutive season, is seventh and eighth, respectively, in goals against average (0.310) and save percentage (0.911), while Mikayla Rubin is seventh in assists per game (0.65).

In 2024, the Tornados claimed the program's first-ever USA South Conference Regular Season Championship - the first conference regular-season title in the NCAA-era for any sport at BC - and finished the season with an unbeaten 15-0-3 record, the first time BC women's soccer has completed an undefeated campaign since the school was a junior college in 1998. Mascaro was selected as the USA South Conference Women's Soccer Coach of the Year for BC's efforts in 2024. Mascaro coached the conference's Rookie of the Year (Kinlee Mozley) and Goalkeeper of the Year (Abby Nunez) alongside a record seven All-Conference performers

The Tornados earned the program's first NCAA-era postseason win in the semifinals of the 2023 USA South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. Coach Mascaro led the Tornados to the Championship match of the Tournament.

BC women's soccer has enjoyed sustained success since joining the NCAA Division III ranks, qualifiing for postseason action in six of the last seven seasons. The run started for Brevard in 2018 when the Tornados won 11 matches en route to a berth into the 2018 ECAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Tornados then qualifed for the COVID-shortened Spring 2021 postseason with a spot in the USA South West Division Tournament, followed by four-straight trips to the USA South Conference Tournament from 2021-24, with the Tornados earning the top overall seed in the '24 campaign.

Mascaro was named head women’s soccer coach in the spring of 2016 after current head coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara was promoted to head men’s soccer coach. He took over the women’s program after serving as the head men’s soccer coach from 2007-13, where his teams finished a combined 24-94-5 overall and 11-38-0 in league bouts.

Following a year off from coaching for the 2014-15 season, Mascaro returned to the pitch for the 2015-16 year as a goalkeeper coach under head women’s soccer coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara. That year under Mascaro’s instruction, Tornados goaltender Jocelyn Springer finished as one of the top net minders in the South Atlantic Conference, ending the year with 81 saves and a 1.32 goals against average. Springer’s 81 saves finished top-five in the SAC, while her four wins and three shutouts achieved top-10 honors.

Prior to Brevard, Mascaro was an assistant coach with the Campbell University women’s soccer program. He trained the goalkeepers, served as recruiting coordinator, and monitored academic success. He was also an assistant men’s soccer coach for the University of Central Florida for five seasons, helping lead the Golden Knights to an Atlantic Sun championship and a national ranking that peaked at No. 13.

A native of El Salvador, Mascaro earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration in 1997 and his Master of Arts in Applied Economics in 1999 from the University of Central Florida. Mascaro also serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Brevard College.
