FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Brevard College football team (5-4, 3-3 USA South) put together a complete effort, downing USA South Conference foe Methodist (1-8, 0-6 USAS) on Saturday afternoon.
After sending away the opening kickoff, the Tornados made a big play on the first play from scrimmage, as
Marvin Pulley intercepted Monarch quarterback Kolbe Little, setting up Brevard at Methodist's 22-yard line.
Rayshawn Williams took the first two carries of the ensuing drive for 20 yards, and
Zion Fauntleroy-McDaniel punched it in from two yards out to make it 7-0 Tornados.
The Monarchs and Tornados traded scoreless drives until five minutes into the second quarter. After keeping the drive alive on a 12-yard scramble from
Ethan Beamish on third down, Beamish found Fauntleroy-McDaniel on a 16-yard connection to get Brevard to Methodist's 35. Beamish found
Adam Douglas for 17 yards to get BC inside the 15, and on 3rd-and-2 from the four, Brevard's signal caller connected with
Reggie Taylor II for a touchdown to make it 14-0.
After forcing a three-and-out on Methodist's next drive, Brevard's
Jeremyah Lane returned the punt for a 50-yard touchdown, scoring his third special teams touchdown in as many games to extend Brevard's lead to three touchdowns just over two minutes before halftime.
Brevard wasted no time in the second half as Lane took the opening kickoff 90 yards for his second special teams touchdown of the game.
Methodist found the endzone for the first time after a 12-play, 77-yard drive, capped off by an Asa Windham three-yard touchdown run, making it a 27-7 game.
After a failed onside kick, Brevard started the next drive at the 50-yard line. Beamish found
Messiah Ramseur for 24 yards on the first play of the drive before a 12-yard rush from Williams got the ball to the 12-yardline. Beamish connected with Douglas from eight yards out two plays later, reinstating the 27-point lead.
Methodist worked its way back into Brevard territory on the ensuing drive, eventually finding the endzone on a two-yard run by Kyan McCollum. The extra point was wide, and the tally stood at 34-13.
BC used a handful of chunk plays to get back into the Methodist redzone, ending the third quarter at the Monarchs' 13.
Josh Quinn found the endzone on the first play of the fourth quarter on a 13-yard reception to make it 41-13.
Brevard's final score came courtesy of
Darrius Billingsley, rushing the ball five consecutive times, highlighted by an 18-yard run to cap off an impressive offensive day for the Tornados and extending the lead to 47-13.
Methodist would find the endzone once more, as Asa Windham found Tyrone Atkinson for a 16-yard strike, creating the final tally at 47-20.
Beamish finished the day 12-of-17 through the air for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman
Nehemiah Floyd led the ground game with nine carries for 77 yards. Billingsley also had a nice day, toting it five times for 62 yards and a score. Douglas tallied three catches for 40 yards and a touchdown to lead the wideouts.
Defensively, Pulley added a team-best seven tackles to his interception to open the contest, while
Baylee Ramey and
Carter Raulerson had six tackles apiece.
Brevard wraps up its season at Ives-Lemel Family Field against NC Wesleyan for Senior and Alumni Day on Saturday, November 15t at 1 p.m.
