BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (1-0) shot 51.4% from the field and canned 16 3-pointers en route to a dominant 93-72 victory over Oglethorpe in the 2025-26 season opener on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
Senior forward
Jadon Carnes paced four double-digit Tornado scorers with 16 points on 7-of-8 from the floor with two 3-pointers to go alongside six rebounds. Sophomore guard
Twain Wilson added 15 points, while junior transfer
Malachi McLean totaled 13 points with three 3-pointers.
Tyler Baldwin posted a career-best 10 points with three 3-pointers while adding seven assists and four boards.
Brock McKnight hit three 3-pointers as well for nine points with eight boards,
KK Horton contributed nine points, and
Dre'Shaun Brown grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds with eight points. All told, 11 different Tornados found the scoresheet, with nine hitting 3-pointers. As a team, the Tornados distributed a total of 24 assists out dominated the glass 42-28.
The visiting Stormy Petrels were led by Mason Kemp, who logged a game-high 19 points with six field goals and six free throws. Malachi Dooley (14 points) and Kam Stone (12 points) also reached double figures in scoring.
BC jumped out to a 13-point lead through the first seven minutes of action thanks to a 14-0 scoring run that included a pair of treys. Brevard was able to balloon its advantage all the way up to as many as 20 in the first half, riding its hot shooting to a 51-point frame which included 11 made shots from distance. BC took a 13-point margin into the locker rooms, 51-38. McLean led all Tornados with 11 points at the break, with himself and McKnight draining three 3-pointers apiece.
The Tornados never led by less than 11 points the rest of the way, as BC was able to ice the contest with big second half performances from Baldwin and Carnes.
BC returns to The Bosh on Wednesday, November 12 at 5 p.m. to face off against former USA South foe LaGrange.
