RALEIGH, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (6-3, 1-1 USA South) dropped its first USA South Conference contest of the season in a 58-54 defeat at the hands of William Peace (5-3, 2-0 USAS) on Friday evening at the Herman Student Center.
In a back-and-forth matchup that featured four ties and seven lead changes, the Pacers were able to slam the door by outscoring Brevard by six in the fourth quarter to squeeze out the four-point victory.
BC outshot William Peace 39% to 28%, while neither side got much going at all from beyond the arc. WPU's biggest edge was in the turnover category, as the Pacers defense forced 25 turnovers on 13 steals, and created 22 points off those Tornado mistakes.
Playing all 40 minutes, Olivia Miller notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards, shooting 8-of-15 from the field to lead Brevard. Jada Perry-Wilkins added nine points and seven rebounds, and Malayka's Rankin also scored nine points going 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Ensley Perry scored a game-high 19 points, while Amiah Griffin and Zikira Henderson each totaled 10 rebounds for WPU. The victory marked Pacer Head Coach Annalee Bollinger's first career victory over her alma mater.
The Tornados next prepare for a pair of home conference showdowns against Greensboro (Tuesday, Dec. 16, 6 p.m.) and Methodist (Wednesday, Dec. 17, 4 p.m.).
