BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (4-3) matched a program record with 18 made 3-pointers as the Tornados hit the century mark for the first time this season in a 100-86 triumph over Bob Jones (2-4) on Friday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
Sophomore guard Twain Wilson led the way with 28 points on 10-of-15 from the field, setting a new career high while hitting five 3-pointers and four free throws. KK Horton poured in 18 points on 7-of-11 from the field with four 3-pointers and seven assists, while Tyler Baldwin canned four triples off the bench for 18 points - his fifth double-digit scoring performance of the season as the second-year guard also distributed six assists.
Senior forward Jadon Carnes stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting with seven rebounds and six assists, while Dre'Shaun Brown dominated the boards with a career-high 13 rebounds to go alongside six points, six assists, three steals, and two blocks.
Brevard assisted on 28 of its 38 made baskets, as the Tornados went 38-of-67 (57%) from the field and 18-of-34 (53%) from long range. BC's bench outscored BJU's 28-8, and Brevard's defense held the Bruins to 36% from long range with eight makes to BC's 18.
Brandon Wilkins scored 20 points to lead five double-digit scorers for the Bruins, as the entire starting lineup for Bob Jones reached double figures.
BJU started hot, opening up an 11-point lead, 14-3, four minutes into the game. BC turned the tables, outscoring Bob Jones 17-5 to take its first lead of the contest midway through the first half. Up by two with four to go in the first period, 35-33, BC outpaced Bob Jones by six down the stretch to take a 52-44 lead into the halftime intermission.
BC kept its foot on the gas, leading by as many as 18 in the second half, 73-55 at the 13:49 mark. Bob Jones was able to use an 18-2 scoring run in five minutes to cut the deficit all the way down to two points, 75-73, but Brevard answered back closing the door with a 17-3 run of its own to retake a 16-point lead with five minutes to play. BC cruised from there and closed out the 14-point triumph.
The Tornados will next visit the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb University in a NCAA DI Exhibition on Friday, Dec. 12 in Boiling Springs, N.C. at 7 p.m., before returning to host Johnson and Wales-NC on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. at The Bosh.
