Brevard Holds Off Bob Jones in Home Win

Tornados Withstand Late Bruin Rally

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (6-2) picked up its sixth win in eight contests, completing the season sweep of Bob Jones (1-5) with a 57-49 triumph in a Friday evening showdown at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

BC's defense caused a total of 20 Bruin turnovers and held the Bruins to just 14 points and 12% shooting from the field in quarters two and three.

Olivia Miller led the charge for the Tornados, scoring 19 points with nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Kayden Johnson added 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as Brevard won the battle on the glass, 50-33. Christena Rhone posted nine points with two 3-pointers off the bench, distributing three assists as well.

Brevard shot 30% from the field, narrowly edging Bob Jones' 29% mark. BC was able to captive on BJU's mistakes, creating 17 points off turnovers while controlling the paint, 24-16.

Anna Layne Wylder led the Bruins with 11 points and three made 3-pointers, while Jenna Brooks also reached double figures with 10.

Bob Jones started off hot, outscoring Brevard 22-19 in the first period. Brevard answered back by holding BJU to just seven points in the second period, taking a five-point halftime advantage 34-29.

BC once again had a 13-7 scoring edge in the third period, holding a double-digit lead at the end of three, 47-36.

Brevard led by as many as 15 points midway through the fourth quarter, 53-38, but Bob Jones made a late charge with an 11-0 scoring run to trim the deficit to four, 53-49 with two minutes to play. Rhone and Johnson hit a pair or critical free throws each down the stretch to put the contest away as BC claimed its eight-point victory.

The Tornados will return to conference play next week, as Brevard heads to Raleigh, N.C. to face William Peace on Friday, Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
