BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team opened its 2025 home schedule, falling 19-5  to Mount Vernon Nazarene (4-0) on Saturday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

BC was led by junior Gage Khayat and senior Brice Peterson who each scored two goals, while senior Michael Peters added a goal late in the contest.  Senior Scott Bundy recorded two assists and freshman Joseph Piazza also registered an assist for the Tornados.  Starting goalkeeper Jack Hicks protected the net for the Tornados with 17 saves and Jameson Murray made his BC debut in goal, playing the game's final five minutes.

MVN was led by Ethan Haney with eight goals and Tyler Dickerson with six assists.  Vaughan Hawkins was the winning goalkeeper and logged seven saves.

The visiting Cougars opened the game with a flurry, taking an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.  The two teams went scoreless for three minutes to start the contest until MVN's Dillon Hittle opened the scoring.  The 8-0 scoring run in the opening stanza concluded with a goal by Gabe Wolf with just 33 seconds left to play.

Less than one minute into the second quarter, the Tornados found the scoring column for the first time on an unassisted goal by Khayat.  A second goal came from Peters with 5:19 to play in the quarter, followed by Khayat's second goal of the night with just under two minutes remaining.  Peterson then scored again himself off an assist from Bundy with 14 seconds left to play until halftime.   Meanwhile, the Tornado defense held the Cougars scoreless for the entire period as BC outscored MVN 4-0 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 8-4 at intermission.

Mount Vernon Nazarene answered back with an impressive third quarter, outscoring BC 7-0 to take a 15-4 advantage into the fourth period.
