MONTGOMERY, Ala. – By virtue of strong singles play, the Brevard College women's tennis team (1-0) opened its 2025 season with a tight 4-3 victory over host Huntingdon (0-1) in a non-conference match in Montgomery, Alabama.  
 
Despite a 6-3 win by Brevard's no. 2 doubles team of senior Jada Ore and sophomore Gracie Spangler, Huntingdon won the singular point for team scoring following victories in number one and three doubles.
 
Trailing headed into singles play, BC needed to win four of the six singles matches to earn the team win.  With that mission at hand, the Tornados did exactly that as BC swept the three through six positions in singles play. 
 
Huntingdon won in number one and two singles with wins by Lily Brown over Hannah Hersch and Taji Williams over Spangler.  Brevard came through however with a sweep of the number three through six singles positions to take the team win.
 
Senior Sophie Trantham won no. 3 singles in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 10-3).  In no. 4 singles, Ore took care of business with a 6-3, 6-1 win.  Freshman Casey Wampler (no. 5) won 6-4, 6-3, while sophomore Ava Thirft battled to win a third-set tiebreaker 10-7 over Angelina Mazza to clinch the W.
 
Brevard women's tennis will continue its 2025 spring campaign with a visit to LaGrange College on Saturday.  First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. in LaGrange, Georgia.
