Sweet Senior Day Victory for BC Women’s Basketball

Seven Tornados Honored Prior to Tip

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (16-5, 11-3 USAS) used a fast start and hit a season-high 14 3-pointers to sprint past Meredith (7-15, 5-10 USAS) 80-59 on a special Senior Day Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

BC honored seven total seniors prior to tipoff - Naliyah Boyce, Jordan Gresham, Josie Hester, Shania Houser, Melanie Hoyle, Hayley Kenney, and Lexi Shepard. Kenney, who has served as BC WBB's student manager, made her collegiate basketball debut for the Tornados Saturday, knocking in a shot that electrified the crowd in the final seconds of the win.

Hester led all scorers with 19 points that included five made 3-pointers. Jada Petty-Wilkins and Shepard each put up 13 points apiece, and Christena Rhone posted 10 as Brevard had four players in double figures. Gresham hit a pair of 3-pointers, while fellow seniors Houser, Hoyle, and Kennedy all got in the scoring column.

Rylie Wade led the Avenging Angels with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Pamela Mock scored 15 points and grabbed eight boards as well.

BC's 14 made 3's was a season-best mark, surpassing the previous mark of 13 made at William Peace (Jan. 25). Brevard's bench scored 40 points in the win, while the Tornados turned 21 Meredith turnovers into 27 points.

Brevard jumped out with 28 points in the first quarter, and added 21 in the second period to take a 49-29 edge at the halftime break. Sixteen different Tornados saw action on the floor in the winning effort.

The final week of the regular season commences for Brevard, as the Tornados travel to Pfeiffer on Tuesday, February 18 at 7 p.m. in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
