DANVILLE, Ky. - For the second time this week, the Brevard College baseball team (1-6) held an advantage heading into the bottom of the 10th inning. However, BC was unable to seal the deal as Centre (3-1) scored two runs to walk off the Tornados, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon at Gary Wright Field at Fishman Park.
Â
BC rallied back from a first-inning 3-0 deficit, knotting the contest up at four runs apiece in the top of the fifth. Neither side managed runs in innings six-through-nine, sending the matchup to extra frames.
In the top of the 10th, senior first baseman
Cale Oehler smacked a double to right field that brought
Logan Sawyer into score and gave the Tornados a 5-4 lead. The Colonels found an answer in the bottom-half of the frame, as two singles were followed by a throwing error that allowed the tying run to come across. After a HBP and a fielder's choice, Centre walked the game off with an RBI single, taking a 6-5 victory.
Â
Four Tornados racked up multi-hit outings in the loss, with
Hunter Busque, Oehler, Sawyer, and
Frankie Vasquez accounting for eight of BC's 11 hits. Oehler and Vasquez logged doubles, while Sawyer scored a team-high two runs.
Zack Wilson made the start for Brevard, going five innings with four ER allowed and three strikeouts.
Aaron Burchett bridged the gap with two scoreless innings, while
Andy Fahringer (0-1) finished the game out on the mound for BC.
Â
Brevard will look to return to winning ways tomorrow as the Tornados face Carthage at noon before a 3 p.m. rematch against Centre in Danville.
