BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's tennis team (3-0) dominated its home opener with a 7-0 sweep over visiting Johnson & Wales (0-3) on Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex. It marked the second straight team sweep for Brevard, having swept LaGrange one week ago.
The home opener began with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play led by seniors Hannah Hersch and
Sophie Trantham who won 6-4 on the number one line. In number two doubles, BC's other all-senior team of
Madison Bowen and
Jada Ore impressed with a 6-2 victory.
Gracie Spangler and
Casey Wampler rounded out the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win on the number three line.
The Tornados did not drop a set across their six singles matches to cruise to the team victory. Hersh won no. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2 in dominant fashion, while Bowen put together a 6-1, 6-4 win in number two singles. Spangler was outstanding with a 6-1, 6-0 win in no. 3 singles. Senior
Sophie Trantham (no. 4) and Ore (no. 5) gave up a mere five games combined in their two wins as well. Wampler rounded out the sweep in no. 6 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 result which proved to be the closest match of the day.
The Brevard women's tennis team continues its 2025 spring campaign with a trip to Cleveland, Georgia to take on non-conference foe Truett McConnell on Wednesday, March 5 at 2 p.m.. The USA South Conference opener for the Tornados is set for Saturday, March 15 vs. North Carolina Wesleyan at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College.
