BC Drops Road Non-Conference Tilt

Back in Action Friday in Lynchburg, Va.

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Brevard College women's lacrosse team (0-3) fell 18-10 to host Eastern Mennonite (1-3) in a non-conference road matchup on Thursday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Madi Norris led the Tornados with four points on three goals and an assist to go along with a game-high four ground balls. Emily Denaga scored three goals, firing off 10 shots including seven shots-on-goal.  Xan Hill recorded two goals and one assist, while Arianna Casertano scored two goals as well.  Kelsey Hamrick added an assist.

Eastern Mennonite was led by Ava Walker who scored seven goals.  Courtney Crawford recorded four goals and Bailey Freeman scored three times to add to the Royals production.

Lex MacLauchin (eight saves) and Kyla Smith-Fondall (five saves) split duties at goalkeeper for the Tornados. Cristal Narciso was the winning goalkeeper for the Royals, recording eight saves.

After a scoreless opening four minutes of the game EMU struck first with a goal from Walker, then added two more goals to take an early 3-0 lead.  With 8:17 to play in the opening quarter, Hamrick set up Casertano for the first goal of the game for the Tornados.  Walker and the Royals added another goal to take a 4-1 lead before Norris delivered to slice the deficit in half.

Trailing 5-2 at the start of the second period, Denaga scored an unassisted goal to again cut EMU's lead to two.  The Royals then reeled off three straight goals to take an 8-3 lead midway through the stanza.  In the course of 45 seconds, Hill then scored consecutive goals to narrow the deficit to 8-5.

Trailing 9-5 at the half, the Tornados came out of the intermission firing with back-to-back goals by Denaga and Norris to trim the deficit back to two.  The Royals followed however with an 8-0 scoring blast over the next 11 minutes to extend their lead to double digits.  Late goals by Denaga, Casertano and Norris helped BC's cause, but the margin proved too large to overcome.

Brevard will continue its road trip with a game at 2 p.m. Friday vs. Randolph in Lynchburg, Virginia.  The Tornados will return home for the USA South Conference opener on Saturday, March 8 vs. N.C. Wesleyan at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
