BC Cruises to Win over Methodist in Road USA South Action

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (11-9, 6-5 USAS) dominated host Methodist (6-14, 2-7 USAS) 88-66 in USA South Conference competition on Saturday afternoon at the March F. Riddle Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Freshman Justen Goudelock scored a career-high 15 points, shooting an efficient 7-of-9 from the field.  The native of Elberton, Georgia also pulled down three rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked his first career shot for good measure in 17 minutes as the first BC player off the bench.

Senior Charlie Hester also scored 15 points to lead the Tornados, alongside Goudelock.  Hester hit 5-of-7 field goal attempts, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance from beyond the arc, while also recording five assists and five rebounds.

Graduate Carson Evans and Jadon Carnes each scored 14 points to give the Tornados a total of four players in double-figures.  Evans was a perfect 4-for-4 shooting and 3-for-3 on 3-pointers.  Carnes also shot efficiently going 5-for-7 from the field, while grabbing five rebounds.

KK Horton led all players with six assists and scored nine points.  Freshman Brennan Wansley dropped in eight points on 3-of-4 shooting.

The contest was tight for much of the first half with Methodist taking a 17-14 lead with 9:16 to play before intermission.  A finish by Wansley then sparked a 12-1 run for the Tornados capped off by a four-point play by Hester after he was fouled on a made 3-pointer.

Hester and Evans continued to shine through the final minutes of the opening half.  The first stanza ended on an Evans 3-pointer on an assist by freshman Twain Wilson to give BC a 45-28 lead at the half.  In total the Tornados outscored the Monarchs 31-11 over the final nine minutes of the first half to give the visitors a sizable advantage for the rest of the afternoon.

Brevard stretched its lead to 27 points multiple times in the second half, keeping the game out of reach for the host Monarchs.

The Tornados shot 60% from the field and 9-of-18 (50%) from the 3-point line.  It marked the fourth time this season that Brevard has shot over 60% for a game from the field and the third time this year going 50% or better on 3-pointers.

Brevard's shooting was particularly hot in the first half with a 67% clip from the field and 6-of-7 (86%) from beyond the arc.  Defensively, BC held Methodist to just 32% shooting in the first half and 36.5% for the game.

Next up for Brevard is an exhibition at Lees-McRae College on Monday at 7 p.m. in Banner Elk, North Carolina.  The Tornados will then return home to the Boshamer Gymnasium for Senior Day on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m. vs. USA South Conference foe William Peace.
