Husson Defeats BC to Begin Spring Break Homestand

Tornados Back in Action Thursday vs. Earlham

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (2-5) were defeated 15-3 by Husson (4-3) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  The game, held during Spring Break for both schools, marked the first of four consecutive home matches for the Tornados.

Senior Scott Bundy led Brevard with two goals to go along with a pair of ground balls.  Junior Gage Khayat scored once, while recording a game-high 12 shots.  Senior Michael Peters dished out two assists, while attempting six shots.

Ray Sutherland and Matt Smith both led Brevard with five ground balls, while defenders Max Dorman and Braedyn Perez each registered two caused turnovers.

Husson, who made the trip from Bangor, Maine, was led by Kiernan Field's three goals and two assists.  Drew Clinch and Owen Gray each recorded a pair of goals as a total of 11 different Eagles found the scoring column.

Senior Jack Hicks played all 60 minutes in goal for Brevard, recording 16 saves.  Husson starter Kyle Plummer earned the win after holding BC to two goals in the first half.  Plummer was relieved at the goalkeeper position by Jeremy Rousseau in the second half.

The visitors jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest.  The Tornados ended their scoring drought with a goal by Bundy off an assist from Peters with 3:20 to play in the opening period.  Husson answered with a goal one minute later to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the first.

The second period was the most competitive with Husson outscoring Brevard 2-1 in the period.  The BC defense held the Eagles scoreless for a stretch of nearly 13 minutes beginning late in the first period through most of the second stanza.  After back-to-back goals by Husson to stretch the lead to 8-1, Khayat grabbed a loose ball then delivered with a goal to cut the deficit to 8-2 at intermission.

Brevard's lone goal in the second half came off a crafty assist from Peters to Bundy who found the back of the net for his second goal.  The Eagles outscored the Tornados 7-1 in the entire second half to punctuate the win.

The Eagles outshot the Tornados 46-28 and benefited from a 60-30 advantage in ground balls.  Neither team was able to capitalize on extra-man opportunities, going a combined 0-for-5.  The Eagles also won the face-off battle, winning 17 of the available 21 chances.

Brevard returns to action with another non-conference contest at 4 p.m. on Thursday vs. Earlham followed by the USA South home opener vs. Greensboro on Saturday, March 15.  The four-game homestand concluded on Friday, March 21 vs. LaGrange at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
