CLEVELAND, Ga. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (7-1) saw its season-opening seven-match win streak come to a close with a tight 4-3 team loss to Truett McConnell (2-4) at the TMU Tennis Complex.
The match originally began on Wednesday, but was suspended due to weather conditions and was finished on Thursday.
BC kicked things off with a point in doubles action thanks to a pair of wins at the one and two doubles line.
Bryce Bernitt and
Hayden LeBlanc earned a 6-2 victory at the top flight, while
Noah Boyles and
Ayden Montero secured a thrilling 7-6 triumph via tiebreak. Brevard's two victories in doubles play led to a 1-0 match lead.
The Bears, however, responded by taking four out of six singles contests to earn the one-point match win. The pivotal victory came at the five-line, when TMU's Ross Stewart earned a thriller in three sets (6-3, 0-6, 6-4) in the final match of the day. BC earned singles wins in dominant fashion as Bernitt (6-0, 6-0) and LeBlanc (6-2, 6-4) dominated with straight-set sweeps.
The Tornados are back in action with the USA South Conference opener on Saturday, March 15 at noon vs. NC Wesleyan at the McCoy Tennis Complex in Brevard, North Carolina.
