BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's tennis team (8-3, 3-3 USA South) earned a dominant 7-0 sweep over Meredith College (1-10, 1-6 USAS) in the 2024-25 home finale on a sun-splashed Monday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
BC kicked off the match by making quick work of the Avenging Angels in doubles play, claiming all three contests to clinch the doubles point. Senior duos of
Hannah Hersh/
Sophie Trantham (6-3) and
Madison Bowen/
Jada Ore (6-1) had little trouble in their matchups at the number one and two spots, while
Gracie Spangler and
Casey Wampler teamed up for a 6-0 sweep.
Brevard then swept through singles play to clinch the match. Trantham battled to win her match in two sets, overcoming a 4-0 deficit in the second set with six consecutive points to complete the 6-4, 6-4 victory at no. 4 singles. Hersh, a senior from Estero, Florida, defeated Ellie Osborne in a thriller. After Hersh claimed the first set 6-4, Osborne battled back for a 7-5 second-set win. In the third-set tiebreaker, Hersh pulled out a 10-8 win to secure the match sweep.
The Tornados hit the road this weekend to face Southern Virginia on Saturday at 11 a.m. After Saturday's match, Brevard will await its postseason fate as the Tornados are heading back to the USA South Conference Women's Tennis Tournament for the fourth-consecutive season.
