STAUNTON, Va. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (6-1, 1-1 USA South) cruised to a 7-0 sweep of Mary Baldwin University (2-9, 0-5 USAS) on Saturday morning. 
 
The victory marks BC's first USA South Conference win of 2025. 
 
The Tornados took care of the doubles point with three wins, and pulled out all six victories in singles action - including three matches that went to a tiebreaking third set. 
 
In doubles play, Hannah Hersh and Sophie Trantham teamed up for a 6-1 win at the top line. Gracie Spangler and Casey Wampler earned a 6-1 victory at the two-spot, while Ava Thrift and Abbie Zylka finished off the doubles sweep with a hard-fought 6-4 triumph at the three-line. 
 
Hersh (6-2, 6-1), Spangler (6-2, 6-0) and Trantham (6-0, 6-0) all cruised in their respective singles matches. After falling behind in the first set, 2-6, Wampler responded with a 6-4 second-set win, and capped off her singles win with a dominant tiebreaker performance, 10-1. 
 
Thrift followed suit, overcoming a 3-6 set one loss by sweeping the second set 6-0. She then pulled out a thrilling tiebreaker, 10-8, to claim number-five singles. Zylka split 6-4 results in the first two sets in number-six singles, but clinched the team match sweep with a 10-7 tiebreaker win. 
 
The Tornados are scheduled to return to action on Monday, April 7 at 2 p.m. against NC Wesleyan at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
