WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior
Madison Bowen's three-set victory in number-two singles clinched a 4-3 team victory for the Brevard College women's tennis team (7-1, 2-1 USA South) over Salem College (3-7, 2-3 USAS) on Tuesday afternoon at the Bert Lain Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Bowen, a native of nearby Greensboro, defeated Cymone Crump, overcoming a 6-3 loss in the first set to take the match in three sets, with a 6-2 triumph in set number two and a match-clinching 6-4 victory in the decisive third set.
The Tornados, after falling behind 1-0 as Salem clinched the doubles point, racked up four singles victories to clinch the match. In addition to Bowen's win in singles, BC took wins in lines four-through-six, as
Sophie Trantham (6-0, 6-3),
Jada Ore (6-1, 6-2), and
Casey Wampler (6-2, 7-5) all came up huge for Brevard.
Salem was able to take doubles by winning matches at the no. 1 and no. 3 spots. Bowen teamed up with Ore to claim a number-two doubles win for the Tornados.
Brevard is set for a quick turnaround as the Tornados return home on Wednesday at noon to face NC Wesleyan at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
