Hill Scores 100th Goal, Smith-Fondall Surpasses 100 Career Ground Balls

BREVARD, N.C. – Junior attacker Xan Hill scored her 100th career goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Kyla Smith-Fondall secured her 100th career ground ball, but the Brevard College women's lacrosse team (6-5, 4-2 USA South) saw its three-game win streak come to an end at the hands of Piedmont University (10-5, 6-1 USAS) on Tuesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Hill, a third-year Tornado from Fort Mill, South Carolina, accounted for all four of BC's scores, putting two in the back of the net while also dishing out a pair of dimes. Emily Denaga and Madi Norris also found nylon for the Tornados, while Smith-Fondall stopped 14 shots in addition to her season-high 10 ground balls.

Senior defender Grace Blanton added four ground balls and two caused turnovers to BC's defense, while fellow senior defender Alyse Moore snatched up three ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers as the fourth-season Tornado eclipsed 50 caused turnovers for her collegiate career. Denaga secured four draw controls to lead all Tornados.

Piedmont was paced by a well-balanced attack en route to its 20-goal output. Merryn Bumpass led all Lions with four goals while Aly Reece and Clara Welch notched hat tricks. Reece led all Lions with eight total points with five assists, while Laura Crone scored twice and dished four dimes out. Seven Lions scored multiple goals in Tuesday's matchup.

The visitors scored five unanswered goals to start in the first quarter, but BC scored two of the last three in the stanza to cut the deficit to four, 6-2. Piedmont racked up seven-straight goals in the second period, taking command of the game with an 11-goal halftime lead that ballooned to 16 by the time the final horn sounded.

The Tornados host their final home game of the 2025 regular season on Saturday at 12 p.m. as Southern Virginia comes to town.
