Scoring Barrage Lifts Brevard in First Conference Road Win

Tornados Score Five in the First Half

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer team (7-0-0, 2-0-0 USA South) scored twice in the opening five minutes and five times in the first half en route to a 5-1 road victory over Greensboro College (4-3-2, 0-1-0 USA South) on Tuesday evening at Pride Field.

Reigning USA South Player of the Week Kinlee Mozley assisted on three first-half goals. The sophomore forward from Lexington, South Carolina, recorded the eighth three-assist performance in Brevard's NCAA era.

The Tornados' goals came from Kate Floyd, Olivia Guillermo, Julia Needelman, Schuyler Pettibone and Mikayla Zvekan. Catie Barton and Mikayla Rubin also notched first-half assists as Brevard's attack overwhelmed the Pride.

Brevard outshot Greensboro 20-11, including a 14-5 edge in shots on goal. The Tornados extended their unbeaten streak to 25 matches, dating to the end of the 2023 season. Through seven matches in 2025, Brevard has outscored opponents 43-1.

Mozley and Zvekan created chances in the opening minute before Pettibone struck in the second. After a counterattack, Mozley played the ball back to Pettibone, who fired home with her right foot to give BC the early lead.

Just four minutes later, Mozley drove down the flank and delivered a cross to Zvekan, who headed it inside the near post for a 2-0 advantage.

The Tornados continued to press midway through the half. Rubin's corner kick found Needelman, whose header deflected off the crossbar and over the line for Brevard's third goal.

Mozley's third assist came in the 32nd minute, when she connected with Guillermo for a header into the top-right corner. It marked Guillermo's first goal of 2025 and made her the 14th Tornado to score this season.

Floyd capped the first-half surge in the 42nd minute, finishing a rebound after Barton's shot was saved. Brevard carried a 5-0 lead into halftime.

BC doubled Greensboro in first-half shots, 16-8. Goalkeeper Abby Nunez made three saves to preserve the shutout through 45 minutes, while Pride keeper Shyann Hansen tallied six stops.

Greensboro broke through in the 66th minute on a penalty kick converted by Claire Friedlander, snapping a 828-minute, 25-second shutout streak that stretched back to Oct. 30, 2024 for BC. The Tornados' defense held firm the rest of the way to secure the four-goal victory.

Brevard visits William Peace at 2 p.m. Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
