Brevard Takes Down Meredith in Five Sets

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (8-10, 5-3 USA South) defeated Meredith (15-4, 6-3 USAS) for the first time in program history, earning a five-set victory over the Avenging Angels, 3-2 (25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 17-25, 15-10) on Friday afternoon in Weatherspoon Gymnasium.

The victory for Brevard marked its first over Meredith in 11 all-time meetings. BC also secured its fourth five-set victory in USA South Conference action in 2026.

Caroline Moon led the Tornado attack with 18 kills, while Bailey Blackmon added 12 kills and four blocks. Emma Fontana posted eight kills and four blocks, with freshman Raegan Harvey leading all Tornados with five blocks at the net. Izzy Boulay (23 assists) and Madison Warren (21 assists) each distributed 20-plus assists, while Boulay notched a double-double with 11 digs, and Gianna Borcich led the defense with 17 digs.

Meredith's offense featured three with double-digit kills, Reagan Kresho (12 kills), Caitlyn Russell (11 kills), and Elena Bostick (10 kills).

Brevard built up an early five-point lead in the first set, 13-8. Meredith fought back, taking a 19-18 edge late, but the Tornados used a 7-5 stretch to finish the set off. Moon drove home a Boulay assist to put the Tornados on set point, and a Warren service ace clinched the frame for the Tornados.

Meredith was on top for a majority of the tightly-contested second set. Trailing 22-20, BC rattled off five-consecutive points to claim the stanza. Blackmon drove a kill before combining with Moon and Harvey for consecutive blocks to put the Tornados on top by one, 23-22. Moon notched a kill to bring up set point, and Blackmon finished the set off with a kill to put BC up 2-0 in the match.

Meredith answered with convincing victories in the third and fourth sets, setting up a winner-take-all fifth frame.

BC scored the first three points of the last set. Meredith responded, taking a 9-8 lead late in the frame. Brevard proceeded to score seven of the final eight points to close out its fourth five-set triumph of conference play, utilizing two Rowan Raney service aces coupled with kills from Fontana and Moon to get in position to take the win.

Brevard next welcomes Southern Virginia for a conference match on Tuesday, October 13 at 4 p.m. before closing the doubleheader out against Piedmont at 6:30 p.m.
