BREVARD, N.C. – Freshman middle blocker
Bailey Blackmon was selected as the USA South Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week following a successful week of action for the Brevard College volleyball team.
Blackmon, a native of Asheboro, North Carolina, averaged 2.44 kills and 0.78 blocks per set as the Tornados posted a 1-1 record last week against USA South foes. The win came over Meredith and the loss to League-leader Greensboro. Blackmon posted week match-highs of 12 kills, four blocks, two digs.
Through 18 matches and 73 sets played this season, Blackmon has totaled 132 kills with a .253 hitting percentage, while adding 62 total blocks defensively. The first-year Tornado totaled a season-best 14 kills and six total blocks in a win over NC Wesleyan earlier this season.
The Tornados return to the court on Tuesday to face Southern Virginia and Piedmont starting at 4 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
