FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (7-9, 4-2 USA South) split a USA South Conference tri-match on Friday, falling 3-0 to Methodist (6-8, 3-3 USA South) before sweeping Mary Baldwin (1-12, 0-5 USAS) at the Riddle Center.
METHODIST 3, BREVARD 0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-23)
The Monarchs stormed out of the gates with a 13-point victory in the first set. BC opened a 10-7 lead in the second frame, but Methodist battled back and claimed a four-point win. The third set featured four ties, with the Tornados knotting the score at 21-21, however the Monarchs scored four of the last six to take the sweep.
Caroline Moon logged eight kills, while Izzy Boulay distributed out 12 assists and Rowan Raney totaled 14 digs. Methodist was led by Savannah Hovander and Addison Johnson, who each tallied 11 kills.
BREVARD 3, MARY BALDWIN 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15)
The Tornados notched their third straight-set victory of the season with a dominant showing against MBU.
Brevard won each set by double digits to claim its fourth conference victory of the season.
Emma Fontana led the charge for Brevard, totaling eight kills, five total blocks, and four service aces.
Elly McClough added seven kills and three blocks, with Bailey Blackmon totaling six kills and four blocks.
Gianna Borcich led all Tornados with 13 digs, while Izzy Boulay secured a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs.
The Tornados return home to face Greensboro on Wednesday, October 7 at 6 p.m.
