Tornados and Pacers Score First Half Goals, Battle Elements in 1-1 Draw

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard (6-2-1, 1-1-1 USA South) and William Peace (6-4-2, 1-0-1 USA South) both notched a goal in the first half, but battled the elements in the second half and played to a 1-1 draw at Ives-Lemel Family Field on Saturday evening.

The Pacers came out of the gates aggressively, notching six shots in the first ten minutes, but the Tornado defense and solid play from freshman keeper Soren Deweer kept the game scoreless early.

Both teams remained scoreless until the 38th minute, when Rawad Khashan put a ball on net and it found the foot of a Pacer defender, hitting the back of the net to give Brevard a 1-0 lead with under eight minutes to play in the first half.

However, the Pacers had an answer late in the first half, as Jackson Campbell ripped a shot from well outside the box out of the reach of Deweer, finding the equalizer with 55 seconds to play before halftime.

Brevard was outshot 13-5 in the first half, but four saves from Deweer and Khashan's goal kept the tally even heading into the break.

Weather played a big role in the second half, as torrential rain drenched Ives-Lemel Family Field for the majority of the second half. Both teams had their opportunities to take the lead in the second half, as WPU racked up another 12 shots while BC collected eight. However, solid defense and the elements played a large role in the contest ending in a draw.

William Peace earned the edge in multiple categories with 25 shots to Brevard's 14 and 13 corners to the Tornados' three. However, Soren Deweer notched ten saves, holding the Pacers at bay. Dallas Story collected three saves to turn the Tornados away on a handful of occasions.

Brevard's Rawad Khashan and William Peace's Jackson Campbell both scored their first goals in the 2026 season, creating the only offense for either side.

Brevard moves to 6-2-1 with a non-conference matchup with Johnson & Wales on Wednesday at 7 pm at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
