RALEIGH, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (8-1-2, 2-0-0 USA South) defeated Meredith (3-5-2, 2-2-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Meredith Track and Field Complex.
Brevard edged Meredith behind a second-half strike from Mikayla Rubin and a shutout performance from goalkeeper Abby Nunez and the Tornado defense, extending the Tornados' unbeaten USA South Conference start.
Rubin delivered the winner in the 63rd minute, finishing a feed from Natalie DeBella after sustained pressure to open the second half.
Brevard controlled much of the match, outshooting Meredith 17–8 and generating eight shots on goal. Rubin alone put five attempts on frame, while Janie Steele added four shots as the Tornados repeatedly tested Avenging Angels goalkeeper Delaney Thompson, who finished with seven saves.
Nunez was equally sharp, stopping all six shots she faced - including key saves in the 2nd, 13th, and 37th minutes - to secure her shutout.
Meredith created chances through Sadie Jones and Kennedy Gaston, but Brevard's back line held firm, limiting dangerous looks and clearing repeated late pressure.
The Tornados are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m., hosting Greensboro at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
