BREVARD, N.C. – Junior midfielder
Mikayla Rubin scored a match winner in the 75
th minute as the Brevard College women's soccer team (12-1-5) earned its spot in the semifinals of the 2026 USA South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament, defeating seven-seed Methodist (7-7-2), 1-0 on Halloween afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Rubin, a third-year Tornado from Boynton Beach, Florida, scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season with a rip in the 75
th minute of play. Initially turned away by Methodist goalkeeper Kiera Ferguson – who totaled nine shots on the afternoon – Rubin's attempt created backspin that allowed the ball to cross the line, putting the Tornados up by a goal.
Rubin and teammate
Janie Steele led the Tornados with four shots apiece, as Brevard outpaced Methodist 26-10 in shot attempts.
Catie Barton,
Peyton Coggins, and
Maddy Loranger added three attempts each.
Abby Nunez stopped both on-target attempts by the Monarchs, as the Tornado defense recorded its 13
th shutout of the 2026 campaign. The back line of
Natalie DeBella,
Sophia DePasquale,
Addison Goins, and
MK Smoak played all 90 minutes to keep the Monarchs off the scoresheet.
BC's stellar unbeaten stretch at home is now at 41 matches, dating back to Oct. 15, 2022.
Brevard will take on the third-seed Greensboro on Wednesday, November 4 at 4 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
