BREVARD, N.C. – Two Brevard College football student-athletes secured weekly honors from the USA South following a pair of dominating performances by the Tornados with a 59-0 win at Guilford and a 51-8 triumph over Belhaven.
Marvin Reed Jr. was named Offensive Rookie of the Week, while
Antonio Simpson took home Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Reed Jr., a Cornelius, North Carolina freshman running back ran for 103 yards on 11 carries with the game's first three touchdowns in a 51-8 win over USA South rival Belhaven last week. Additionally, two weeks ago in a 59-0 shutout over Guilford, Reed carried the ball 11 times for 73 yards while adding one catch for 16 yards.
Simpson, a Columbus, North Carolina sophomore linebacker collected five total tackles, all unassisted, including three for a loss, and a scored a safety in a 51-8 win over USA South rival Belhaven last week. Additionally, two weeks ago in a 59-0 shutout over Guilford, Simpson totaled five tackles.
Brevard is off to its first 4-0 start to a season since 2009, and returns to action this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Buena Vista, Virginia against Southern Virginia.
