Brevard Football Receiving Votes in AFCA National Coaches Poll for First Time

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College football program is receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National DIII Top 25 Poll for the first time.
 
The AFCA poll is one of two national polls recognized by the NCAA for Division III, alongside the D3football.com Top 25 Poll.
 
The Tornados are off to their first 4-0 start to a season since 2009, marking only the second time in program history that BC has remained unbeaten through the first four contests of a season. Victories include a 13-point triumph over NCAA DII Erskine (27-14), a 25-point victory in the season-opener vs. Sewanee (39-14), and a pair of dominant efforts at Guilford (59-0) and vs. Belhaven (51-8).
 
Through four contests in 2026, Brevard currently leads the USA South in points per game (44), total points (176), touchdowns (23), yards per game (435), rushing yards per game (270.5), total rushing yards (1,082), and rushing touchdowns (14). Brevard's defense has dominated, allowing a league-low nine points per game with just 36 points allowed. BC is holding opponents to a league-low 197.5 yards per game, has surrendered only four touchdowns, is tied for the lead with 16 sacks.
 
BC's offensive line was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after the Tornados rushed for 336 yards against Belhaven, and the unit has surrendered a league-low two sacks through four games in 2026. Brevard's offense features the best third-down conversion percentage (44.7) in the conference, while its defense is holding opponents to a league-low 13 first downs per game, a 14.6% conversion rate on third downs, and a 21.4% conversion mark on fourth downs – all the lowest in the USA South. BC's special teams is averaging the best net yards per punt (38.8) in the league, and has blasted kickoffs for an average of 64.5 yards, while net kickoff yards per kick (42.9) is also leading the league.
 
The Tornados currently rank third nationally in third down conversion defense percentage (14.6%), are fifth in scoring defense (7.5 ppg), are second in team passing efficiency defense (82.05), sixth in sacks per game (four), sixth in total defense (197.5), third in turnover margin (2.00), and are one of just 33 teams in NCAA DIII without a loss at this point in the season.
 
BC travels to Southern Virginia on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Buena Vista.
