Offensive Showcase Leads to Doubleheader Sweep in Season Opener

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College softball team (2-0) opened its 2026 campaign in resounding fashion, defeating JWU Charlotte (1-5) in a run-rule 10-2 result, followed by an 8-3 triumph to sweep the doubleheader on a chilly Sunday afternoon at the BC Softball Field.

All told, the Tornados combined for 29 hits, 10 extra-base hits, and seven stolen bases in their 18-run explosion on Sunday.

GAME ONE: BREVARD 10, JWU CHARLOTTE 2 (5 INNINGS)

Andrea Furr launched a solo home to left field, scoring the first run of the season for Brevard in the bottom of the second inning in game one.

JWU found a response in the top of the third with an RBI double, but Alyssa Boris answered right back with an RBI double of her own to put the Tornados back on top, 2-1.

The Wildcats tied things once more in the top of the fourth with an RBI single, but the Tornados surged in the bottom of the fourth for a four-run frame. Anna Graves roped an RBI double down the third base line to bring Kayleigh Marr around to score, and Emma Payne followed suit with a two-RBI single. Regan Winkler capped the frame off with an RBI single, putting the Tornados up by four, 6-2.

BC capped the game off in the bottom of the fifth via run rule as Hayden Moody, Payne, Addison Smith, and Winkler all notched RBI singles to cap off the eighth-run win.

Senior left-handed pitcher Elizabeth Auciello (1-0) was stellar in the circle for her 2026 debut, striking out six batters in the complete-game effort. BC's offense racked up five extra-base hits and three stolen bases, while six Tornados had multi-hit efforts.

GAME TWO: BREVARD 8, JWU CHARLOTTE 3

Moody set the tone for the Tornados in the second game of the twin bill, clearing the bases with a three-RBI triple in the bottom of the second. Payne drove in Moody with a sacrifice fly, and Winkler notched an RBI single to put Brevard up by five runs early.

JWU trimmed the deficit to three with a pair of scores in the top of the fourth, but Brevard answered right back as Smith drilled a two-run shot to left, and Rylee Locklear recorded an RBI single. Freshman right-handed pitcher Victoria Phagan (1-0) finished the complete-game effort off in her first collegiate outing, sealing the doubleheader sweep for the Tornados.

BC is back in action this coming Saturday in Lookout Mountain, Ga. in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
