BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (0-4) dropped a home non-conference bout 19-6 to Mount Vernon Nazarene (4-1) on Thursday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Gage Khayat led the offensive attack for the Tornados with four goals, while also grabbing five ground balls and causing a turnover.
Colin Eifler and
Max Dorman each scored and snagged eight ground balls apiece, while faceoff specialist
Logan Southern won a season-high 14 faceoffs.
Dylan Haynes scored five goals with an assist, while Connor Kistner added four strikes and a dime as five Cougars scored multiple goals in the 19-goal effort.
Khayat found the back of the net to close out the second half for the Tornados, ending the Cougar scoring stretch while leading all Tornados with 10 shot attempts at the intermission. Southern claimed seven faceoff victories, while Eifler snagged five ground balls to lead the squad.
The Cougars were able to score the first three of the second half before Eifler put in BC's second goal of the contest, at the 8:06 mark in the third period on the power play.
Another Cougar penalty resulted in a Tornado strike, when Khayat took advantage of the extra-man opportunity for his second goal oof the game, improving the Tornados to 2-for-2 on EMO's.
Khayat completed his hat trick at the 4:07 mark in the third period, converting an unassisted strike for BC's fourth total score. The senior attacker finished his scoring efforts at the 9:08 mark in the fourth quarter, and Dorman struck off the power play late for his first goal of the game.
The Tornados travel to Atlanta on Saturday to face Oglethorpe at 12 p.m.
