Tornados Bounce Back with 85-74 Home Win vs. Monarchs

Khalil Black Scores 17 in 19 Minutes

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (9-12, 2-8 USA South) got back on the winning track, leading wire to wire in an 85-74 triumph over Methodist (9-11, 5-5 USAS) on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

The contest marked the 12th Annual Red Out game in memory of former Samford University player Jimmy Griffin and in support of the Jimmy Griffin Legacy Foundation.

Griffin played under current Brevard Head Coach Lee Burgess during Burgess' time as an Assistant Coach at Samford University. Griffin passed away in his sleep in September of 2009 from an undetected heart condition. The contest coincides with February's American Heart Month.

Junior guard Khalil Black provided a spark off the bench for the Tornados, going 6-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line to total 17 points in just 19 minutes of action. Senior forward Jadon Carnes set the tone for the Tornados, pouring in 19 points with two 3-pointers and seven free throws. Brock McKnight drilled four 3-pointers in a 12-point performance, while KK Horton also reached double digits with 10 points, and facilitated the offense with five assists. Dre'Shaun Brown scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Brevard on the glass.

Tre' Williams was a catalyst for the Monarchs, scoring 21 points on 9-of-15 from the field. KJ Brooks added 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Dontavious Pettaway logged a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

BC set the tone in the first half, shooting 59% from the field to build up a 14-point halftime lead. Methodist fought back, trimming the deficit all the way down to three at the 14:42 mark in the second half. The Tornados held strong, however, pushing the game back to a double-digit edge to pull away for their second conference win of the season.

Brevard drilled 12 3-pointers and hit its long-range attempts at a 50% clip, marking the ninth time this season that the Tornados have hit double digit 3-pointers. The Tornados claimed the victory despite Methodist holding a 39-27 rebounding and outpacing BC 50-24 in points in the paint.

BC will continue its charge down the final stretch of the 2025-26 regular season, as the Tornados visit Pfeiffer next Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Misenheimer, N.C.
