RALEIGH, N.C. – The Brevard College softball team (8-12, 0-2 USA South) dropped two games via run rule in its USA South Opener, 9-1 and 11-1, to Meredith (9-9, 2-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: MEREDITH 9, BREVARD 1 (5 INNINGS)
Meredith found the early momentum with a pair of runs scored in the bottom of the first inning.
Addie MacDougall reached on an error, and was brought in to score by
Regan Winkler, putting the Tornados on the board.
The Avenging Angels responded in a big way, scoring five in the bottom of the third and finishing off the run-rule win with runs in the fourth and the fifth.
BC was held to just a pair of hits in the loss, with
Andrea Furr and Winkler both recording singles.
GAME TWO: MEREDITH 11, BREVARD 1 (5 INNINGS)
After two scoreless innings, BC broke the stalemate in the top of the third with an RBI single by Winker that brought
Anna Graves in. The Avenging Angels responded in a big way, scoring seven in the bottom of the third, followed by four in the bottom of the fourth to wrap up the dominant doubleheader sweep, 11-1.
BC was once again held to just two hits in the contest, with Winkler and
Rylee Locklear pushing singles across.
The Tornados return home for their USA South home opener on Tuesday, March 24 vs. Salem beginning at 1 PM at the BC Softball Field.
