BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (6-6) swept all six singles matches to come back and take a 6-1 triumph over Franklin (6-11) on Friday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Tornados have now won three matches in a row, four of their last five, and six of their last nine.
The Grizzlies jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the match thanks to a pair of doubles wins at the number two and three positions. Ayden Montero and Noah Boyles teamed up for a 6-1 triumph at the top spot in doubles action for BC.
BC would prevail by winning all six singles matches, claiming three in straight sets and three via a tiebreaking third set.
Montero claimed the first set in his number-one singles match, 6-3, before Marcus Cox answered back with a 6-3 second-set triumph. In the decisive third set, Montero won the tiebreaker 10-3 to earn the top-flight victory.
Boyles engaged in a very tight straight-set match in number-two singles against Jaden Wells, winning the first set 7-6 via a 10-8 tiebreaker, and following that up with another 7-6 win in set two that required a 7-3 tiebreak.
Nathan Booker claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win at the number-three position, and Caelan Byrd clinched number-five singles in a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) decision.
Alexander Voss battled against Brian Venneman in a three-set bout, overcoming a 6-1 loss in the first set with a 7-6 (7-5) victory in set number two. Voss clinched the match win in a 10-6 third-set tiebreaker. Connor Sechrist capped the match off with a three-set win over Luke Morris, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.
BC returns to action on Tuesday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m. in Misenheimer, N.C. vs. Pfeiffer.
