BC Splits DH with MBU, Reaches Double-Digit Wins for First Time Since 2019

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College softball (10-14, 2-4 USA South) split a USA South Conference doubleheader with Mary Baldwin (5-16-1, 1-3 USAS), defeating the Fighting Squirrels 11-4 before falling 6-0 in game number two on a sunny Friday afternoon at the BC Softball Field.

With the victory in game number one, the Tornados have reached a double-digit win total for the first time since the 2019 campaign.

GAME ONE: BREVARD 11, MARY BALDWIN 4

The Fighting Squirrels got the scoring started in the top of the first, cashing in a leadoff walk with a two-out RBI triple. BC answered right back in the bottom of the frame when, with two outs, Regan Winkler was hit by a pitch, followed by an RBI double by Alyssa Boris that tied the contest after one inning.

A sacrifice fly by MBU put the Fighting Squirrels back up, 2-1, but BC took the lead back for good with an emphatic five-run third inning.

With no outs and runners on second and third, Winkler cleared the bases with a two-RBI double to put the Tornados back up, 3-2. Hayden Moody then drove in a run on a fielder's choice, followed up with an RBI single by Kali Panaccione. Morris capped the five-run frame off with another RBI single.

Moody tacked on a run to extend BC's lead to five runs, 7-2, in the bottom of the fourth. MBU scored one run in both the fifth and sixth innings to trim the deficit to three, but Brevard added four in the bottom of the sixth, and Elizabeth Auciello (5-5) slammed the door for the win.

Auciello hurled her seventh complete game of 2026, allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Furr went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, with Morris also recording multiple hits in a 2-for-4 effort. Moody drove in a team-best three runs, and Winkler brought a pair across as well.

GAME TWO: MARY BALDWIN 6, BREVARD 0

The Fighting Squirrel defense and pitching staff kept the Tornados off the scoreboard in game number two, holding BC to just five hits and eight total baserunners. Brevard stranded a total of seven runners on the basepaths in the contest, including three left in scoring position.

Using a pair of two-out doubles in the top of the first, the visitors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Brevard was unable to get much going until the bottom of the fourth with a pair of two-out singles and a walk, forcing a MBU pitching change. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ashlyn Smiley forced a swinging strikeout on three pitches to retire the side, keeping Mary Baldwin ahead by two.

In the top of the sixth, the Fighting Squirrels scored four runs on three hits to add all the insurance that they would need, jumping out to a six-run margin. BC drew walks in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh frames, but could not capitalize as the Tornados dropped game two, 6-0.

Furr once again led the Tornado offense with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, while Boris, Locklear, and Winkler also collected base hits. Auciello (5-6) suffered the loss, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. In relief, Megan Bint hurled 1.1 innings of scoreless ball with three strikeouts.

The Tornados are back at home Saturday for another USA South doubleheader against Southern Virginia beginning at 1 p.m.
