BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore attacker
Joseph Piazza scored a career-high six goals with an assist, while senior faceoff specialist
Logan Southern won a career-high 24 faceoffs and grabbed nine ground balls, but the Brevard College men's lacrosse team (0-7) fell 28-8 to Alfred State (2-4) on Monday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Piazza, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, scored all six of his goals in a stellar first half, helping keep the Tornados within striking distance. Senior
Gage Khayat added a goal and two assists, while
Colin Eifler also found the back of the net for the Tornados, who scored a season-best eight goals.

Eifler, Khayat, and
Roderick Frazier Jr. all snagged six ground balls, and eight different Tornados caused turnovers in the contest. Southern, a senior from Asheville, N.C., won a career-high 24 faceoffs and led all Tornados with nine ground balls secured.

Brevard scored the first goal of the contest at the 13:35 mark as Piazza put in the first score of the day. Alfred State answered back with three goals before Piazza converted a Khayat assist at 9:06, putting the Tornados within one, 3-2. The Pioneers scored two more before Piazza completed his first quarter hat trick at 3:37, but the visitors closed the second quarter with a 3-0 run to take a 9-3 lead.

Alfred State scored seven of the next eight goals to take a double-digit lead, 15-4. BC found the back of the net twice, with two Piazza goals near the end of the period. Alfred State tacked on a score to take a 10-goal lead, 16-6, into the intermission.

Eifler and Khayat found the back of the net early in the third period, but Alfred State finished off the Tornados by outscoring Brevard 12-2 in the second half, securing the non-conference win.

Brevard begins its trip to Ohio with a Thursday matchup at Wilmington, beginning at 3 p.m. at Williams Stadium.
