Big Fifth Inning Not Enough in 12-10 Setback at Toccoa Falls

TOCCOA, Ga. - Brevard College Baseball (14-12) exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning but couldn't hold the lead, falling 12-10 to Toccoa Falls (18-15-1) on Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

The Tornados trailed 6–2 entering the fifth before sending 13 batters to the plate and briefly taking control. Lucas Woodard drove in the first run of the inning with a single, and Brevard tied the game on Adam Newcomb's sacrifice fly and Andrew Bernard's RBI fielder's choice. Tyson Hinkle followed with a two-run double to center, and Tegin Hedrick added a two-run single before Bryson Genwright capped the rally with an RBI double to give Brevard a 10-6 advantage.

Toccoa Falls responded immediately, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning to pull even. The hosts regained the lead for good in the sixth on Cole Smith's solo homer to center and added an insurance run in the seventh.

Brevard finished with 14 hits and received multi-hit performances from Woodard, Hinkle and Hedrick. Woodard went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI, while Hinkle drove in two and Hedrick scored twice and knocked in two more.

The Tornados also homered earlier in the game, with Woodard and Hunter Busque connecting back-to-back in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Brevard used seven pitchers in the game. Gage Granata took the loss after allowing four runs while recording one out in the fifth inning. Nathan Woytowich worked the final two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run and striking out three.

Ethan Strength earned the win in relief, and Joshua Ramey picked up his sixth save of the season.
