BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (7-7) clinched five singles victories to secure a 5-2 win over JWU Charlotte (4-9) on Thursday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
Johnson & Wales claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Hugo Cossais and John Billinis took a 6-0 decision at No. 1 doubles, and Sam Cicciarello and Cayden Danzer edged David Hoyle and Nathan Bookout 7-5 at No. 3. Brevard's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Caelan Byrd and Connor Sechrist defeated Fernando Esteban and Nathaniel Lawler 7-5.
Brevard responded quickly in singles play, winning five of six matches to clinch the overall victory. Ayden Montero earned a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, defeating John Billinis 6–2, 6–3. Alexander Voss followed with a 6–2, 6–4 victory over Nathaniel Lawler at No. 4, and Caelan Byrd cruised past Sam Cicciarello 6–1, 6–1 at No. 5.
The clinching points came at No. 3 and 6 singles, where at the six-spot Connor Sechrist outlasted Cole Goodman-Gary in three sets, 5–7, 7–5, 1-0 (10-5). Nathan Bookout added to the Tornados' total with a hard-fought win at No. 3, edging Hugo Cossais 7–6(5), 7–6(4).
Justin Wagner picked up Johnson & Wales' lone singles victory at No. 2, defeating Noah Boyles 6–2, 6–2.
