WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (2-0-2) played to a scoreless draw at Carolina University (0-1-3) on Tuesday evening at Truist Sports Park.
Brevard controlled long stretches of the first half, outshooting Carolina U 10–9 before the break and finishing level at 14–14 overall. The Bruins took a total of six corner kicks, and drew 14 BC fouls.
Midfielder Maddy Loranger generated early pressure with three first-half attempts, including a shot in the third minute that forced Bruins goalkeeper Waleska Gonzalez into her first of three saves. Forward Carissa Jenkins added four shots for the Tornados, two of them blocked by the Carolina U defense.
The Bruins' best opportunity came in the 27th minute when defender Jairely Joa stepped to the spot for a penalty kick, only to push the attempt wide.
The Bruins continued to threaten through Peyton Battilla and Ashley Sanchez, who combined for six shots, but Brevard goalkeeper Abby Nunez (2-0-2) turned away four saves to preserve the clean sheet and notch her third shutout of the season.
Both teams leaned heavily on their defenses in the second half. Brevard managed just four shots after halftime, while Carolina earned three corner kicks and several late looks, including an 85th-minute effort from Alexa Anderson that sailed high.
The Tornados are back in action on the road Thursday at nearby foe Warren Wilson in Swannanoa at 5 p.m.
