STAUNTON, Va. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (4-0-2, 1-0-0 USA South) scored two goals and held on through a late Mary Baldwin (2-2, 0-1 USAS) rally to defeat the Fighting Squirrels 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at SMA Worth Field.
Brevard scored its first goal late in the first half, and tacked on the eventual match-winner in the 67th minute. Mary Baldwin broke up the shutout bid with an 86th-minute strike, but the hosts were unable to find a match-tying score in the final minutes, giving BC the one-goal victory.
Mikayla Rubin scored her first goal of 2026, finishing an assist by Carissa Jenkins in the 36th minute. Brennan Howell found the back of the net for the first time in 2026, putting back a saved shot attempt by Kate Floyd to put BC up by two.
MBU would not go down without a fight, however, as Joelle Hare scored her third goal of the season in the 86th minute off an assist by Mackenzie Shores. Addison Hannigan had the final look at scoring in the 89th minute, but her attempt sailed high as the Tornados held on.
Brevard held a 13-9 shot advantage, including a 9-3 mark in on-target attempts. Mary Baldwin earned seven corner kicks in the match, and totaled seven second-half shot attempts.
The triumph pushes BC's unbeaten streak in regular season matches to 42, dating back to Oct. 14, 2023. Brevard has not dropped a road match in the regular season since that same date, a streak of 22 contests.
The Tornados return home on Wednesday, September 23 at 4 p.m., playing host to Salem.
