Rodriguez Earns All-State Honor from NCCSIA
Sophomore libero Mariana Rodriguez was selected to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Volleyball Second Team.
The NCCSIA awards All-State teams in the sports of Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball in two categories – University and College. The University Division includes NCAA DI schools across the state, while the College Division includes NCAA DII and DIII schools across North Carolina.
Rodriguez recorded a total of 475 digs, which averaged out to a 5.34 digs-per-set mark. The Houston native ranked third in the USA South Conference with her 5.34 digs-per-set total and was named as a USA South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week selection during the course of the 2019 season.
The sophomore’s 5.34 digs-per-set mark is the fifth-highest single-season total in Brevard’s NCAA-era history. In Rodriguez’s two seasons at Brevard, she has averaged 4.80 digs-per-set, which ranks third all-time in the NCAA-era for career digs-per-set.

Timiah McGhee Picked to USA South Volleyball All-Sportsmanship Team
Brevard College’s Timiah McGhee was named the Tornados’ representative on the USA South Conference Volleyball All-Sportsmanship Team.
McGhee, a freshman middle blocker from Dover, Delaware, played in 18 matches this season. She recorded 24 kills and seven blocks for the Tornados in 2019, helping BC earn a season sweep over USA South opponent Agnes Scott College.
McGhee recorded a season-high three kills on four separate occasions this season and tallied three solo blocks on October 29 in a home match vs. Bob Jones University at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Volleyball Earns Victory in Final Day of 2019 Season
The Brevard College volleyball team (2-25, 2-12 USAS) earned a victory on the last day of its 2019 season, achieving a 3-0 sweep over host Agnes Scott (0-23, 0-14 USAS) on Saturday morning.
In the second contest for the Tornados of the USA South Conference quad-match, Covenant (10-17, 9-5 USAS) defeated Brevard 3-0 late Saturday afternoon.
In the win over Agnes Scott, freshman Breanna O’Shields led the Tornados offensively with 11 kills, tying her career-high. Brook Groves was second amongst all players in the category with eight kills.

Brevard Swept in Straight Sets by Piedmont
The Brevard College volleyball team (1-24, 1-11 USAS) fell in a mid-week USA South Conference match against the Piedmont College Lions (9-17, 5-7 USAS) on Wednesday evening at The Cave Arena in Demorest, Georgia.
Mariana Rodriguez’s 20 digs led a Brevard defense that accumulated 60 total digs. Rodriguez added to her digs-per-set total, as the sophomore from Houston has averaged 5.36 digs-per-set in 2019, a mark that is third in the USA South.
Two other Tornados tallied double-digit dig totals alongside Rodriguez, as freshmen Breanna O’Shields (11 digs) and Grace Pukas (10 digs) added to Brevard’s defensive effort.

Brevard Hosts Dig Pink Match for Home Finale, Falls to Bob Jones
The Brevard College volleyball team hosted its “Dig Pink” match on Tuesday evening - its annual match in correlation with the Sideout Foundation promoting Breast Cancer Awareness - as the Tornados (1-23) fell to the visiting Bob Jones University Bruins (26-4), 3-0, in BC’s final home contest of the 2019 season at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
Mariana Rodriguez paced Brevard’s defense with 13 kills, while freshman Breanna O’Shields had a well-rounded effort with 10 digs and five kills. Freshman setter Grace Pukas led the Tornados by dishing out 10 assists. Fellow freshmen Julie McGahy (4 kills) and Timiah McGhee (3 kills) also contributed to the Tornado attack.
