Joseph Marvin, who enters his eighth overall season at Brevard College in 2025-26, was tabbed Sports Information Director prior to the 2023-24 season after previously serving as both Assistant SID and Digital Media Director in his previous five years with the Tornados.
Marvin originally arrived at BC in August of 2018 as one of the youngest full-time sports information professionals in the nation.
Marvin covers all of Brevard College's 19 varsity-level sports. His capacity at Brevard includes managing game-day staff, day-to-day publicity, overseeing sports statistics, developing publications, programs, graphics, social media, production for live streams, and student-athlete award nominations. Over his years publicizing and advocating for Tornado student-athletes, BC has garnered over 900 weekly awards, all-conference, all-region, and national honors. During his Tornado career, Marvin has helped oversee over 800 live streams, free-of-charge for Tornado fans across the nation and beyond.
During his first year of work at Brevard College, Marvin immediately oversaw numerous responsibilities in the BC Sports Information Office. He was responsible for all home-game press box operations, as well as statistical input for all of Brevard's NCAA-sponsored sports.
Marvin has aided in the execution of hundreds of live-streamed athletic contests and other video elements, initiating the ever-growing Brevard College Tornados YouTube channel. Year in and year out, Marvin has worked continuously to set school audience records with around-the-clock athletic coverage on Brevard College Athletics' social media platforms of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
In addition to these responsibilities, Marvin maintains all website content as well as the writing and publication of recaps, stories, and breaking news on bctornados.com as well as the distribution of content to local and regional media outlets. Marvin oversaw a complete redesign of bctornados.com, the official website of Brevard College Athletics in the Summer of 2023.
A seven-year member of College Sports Communicators (CSC), Marvin represents BC at the annual CSC Convention – a part of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics family. Marvin also regularly assists The Scorer’s Table – a company based out of Nashville, Tennessee which helps colleges nationwide fill gameday positions – working with area colleges and universities in game-day statistical, scorekeeping, and public address duties. Additionally, Marvin serves on the Associated Press’ DIII Football All-America committee, alongside several Athletic Communications professionals across the country.
Marvin has assisted regional institutions such as Queens University of Charlotte (DI), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (DI), the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (DI), the South Atlantic Conference (DII), Johnson University of Tennessee (NAIA), and Carolina University (NAIA) through his work with TST.
For the upcoming 2025 football season, Marvin will enter a new role with the NFL and the Carolina Panthers, working with the NFL’s Game Statistics & Information Sysyems (GSIS) Stats Crew for all nine home games (two preseason, seven regular season) at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Marvin has worked several high-profile events over his Sports Media career, including the Myrtle Beach Bowl (2024) and the Naismith Memorial Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame Classic (2021).
For the past three years, Marvin has helped run press and scorer’s table operations at the Cherokee Invitational - an annual D1 women’s basketball tournament held at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in Cherokee, North Carolina - ran in conjunction Moreover, Marvin competed his fifth season in 2025 as an official scorer and MiLB gameday stringer for the Asheville Tourists, the High-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Houston Astros.
Prior to arriving at Brevard, Marvin served as a Media Relations Game Day Assistant at Western Carolina University from 2015 to 2018 where he was responsible for game day functions such as statistical inputting, clock/scoreboard operations, and spotting for the Catamount basketball, football, baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball teams. He also assisted in functions with marketing, video production, and game day operations at WCU. Alongside his work at Western Carolina, Marvin developed six-plus years of retail sales experience.
Marvin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Carolina University in December of 2018, holding a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Sport Management and a minor in Economics. He is a native and lifelong resident of the Asheville, North Carolina area.
