Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team dropped a 77-49 contest to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
BC led or was tied for the first 8:09 in the contest, but the Tornados struggled to match the depth of Lenoir-Rhyne down the stretch. The Bears poured in 45 points off the bench, compared to only 16 by the Tornados.
A three-pointer from Jazmine Charles at 11:51gave Lenoir-Rhyne their first lead of the game at 15-13.
The Tornados remained within striking distance until the Bears closed the first half with 14 unanswered points to carry a 37-21 lead into the break.
Senior Micheala Watkins led all scorers with 17 points, but Brevard shot just 27.8 percent (15-of-54) from the floor on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Nneka Awuruonyecame off the bench to lead four L-R players in double figures with a team-high 14 points. Krystal Patton added 12 points in 21 minutes off the bench as well.
Brevard next travels to Harrogate, Tennessee, to take on the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters at 6:00 p.m on Wednesday night. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, returns home to host Catawba on Wednesday night.
