ANDERSON, S.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team traveled to conference foe Anderson on Tuesday evening, falling 3-0 to the Trojans in the team's fourth consecutive defeat.
Anderson stole the momentum away from the Tornados early in the match, storming out to an 11-point win in the first set, hitting .594 with 19 kills and no errors while limiting Brevard to a .186 hitting percentage. After an Anderson service error gave Brevard a 12-11 lead, the Trojans exploded for 13 of the next 16 points in the lopsided 25-14 win.
Anderson took control of the second set with five straight points to turn a 15-11 deficit into a one-point advantage and would never trail again in the set. The Tornados cut Anderson's lead to two points at 21-19 on a Hannah Elmore kill, but the Trojans would close the set with a service ace sandwiched between two assisted blocks.
The third set was never in doubt as the Trojans scored the first five points and would eventually take a 9-1 lead, coasting to the 25-14 win in the set and the sweep in the match.
Anderson hit .381 for the match, the highest hitting percentage Brevard has allowed all season. Hailey Pittman had a match-high 20 kills to pace three Trojans with double figure kill totals. Fatima Gharachorloo and Hannah Elmore tied for the team for Brevard lead with seven kills.
The Tornados return to the court on Friday evening as Brevard takes on Carson Newman in Jefferson City, Tennessee. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Brevard will then travel to face Lincoln Memorial on Saturday afternoon.
