BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard College's softball team hosted Wingate for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, losing to the visiting Bulldogs 3-1 in game one and 2-1 in game two. After the doubleheader, the Tornados drop to 11-27 overall and 1-9 in SAC play.

After allowing a Wingate (20-10, 5-5 SAC) home run to start the afternoon, Jamie Hrobak only allowed three more hits in the first three frames with as many strikeouts in the span. Wingate added to the lead with a run in fourth and the seventh to make it 3-0.

In Brevard's final attempt at a comeback in game one, the first two batters got out but Mary Cloninger blasted her first home run of the season to bring new life into the ballgame. The following batter, Kinny Davis, smacked a triple down the left field line to bring the tying run to the plate. Lauren Parker waited for her pitch and took her shot with a deep hit, but Wingate's center fielder was able to get under it for the final out.

In similar fashion to the first game, Wingate took a first inning lead and never lost it. Wingate added a cushion to its lead in the third inning, as a Bulldog who got on base via a wild pitch on strike three ended up scoring three batters later. Brevard cut into the lead in the fourth inning, as Ricki Kuhn was able to get Kinsey Parrish home with a single down the left field line.

Wingate tried to respond to the run in their following at bat, but Hrobak was able to fan two-consecutive batters with runners on the corners to keep it a one run game. Brevard managed to get the tying run on base in each of its last three attempts, but couldn't get the runner home.

Davis, Parrish, Parker and Paige Atkison all logged multiple hits in the doubleheader with Parrish posting a team-best 3-6 outing with a run scored.

Hrobak pitched 13 innings on the day, striking out 11 while allowing five runs off of 14 hits. Kuhn pitched the final inning of the afternoon, striking out two Bulldogs.

Softball is back in action tomorrow when they travel Bluefield, Va. for a doubleheader against Bluefield starting at 2:00 p.m.
