BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Volleyball team (3-8, 3-4 SAC) dropped their second straight 3-1 decision in as many days as the Anderson Trojans (8-5, 5-1 SAC) handed the Tornados their second straight lost in South Atlantic Conference action.
Sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Lambert (Florence, Ky.) led the Tornados attack on the afternoon as the Florence, Ky. native recorded a match high 13 kills to go along with a .233 hitting percentage for the match. Freshman Callie Chappell (Rosman, N.C.) was the only other Brevard player to registered double digit kills as the freshman outside hitter added 10 more kills to her team leading 130, while also chipping in 11 digs. Senior middle hitter Savannah Cox (Kannapolis, N.C.) posted the Tornados best hitting percentage of the match as the senior recorded six kills on .278 hitting from the floor.
Senior libero Aleksandra Vrvilo (Beaverton, Ore.) posted another match high 23 digs, while junior setter Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) recorded 29 assists and 13 digs to close out the home conference stand.
Anderson would open the afternoon on a 13-6 opening set run before the Tornados were able to pull within four points of the Trojans at 20-16, as two Brevard attack errors and three Anderson kills would give the Trojans a 1-0 advantage.
Brevard would even the contest a 1-1 in the second frame as the Tornados lead nearly the entire set as BC would use two kills by Cox, a kill by Lambert and junior Rachel Ruble (Advance, N.C.), along with a Chappell ace to close out the set 25-20.
The Trojans, however, would jump out early on Brevard in the third frame as they cruised to a 25-14 set victory, before using a tightly contested four set to earn the eventual 25-20 set point and the 3-1 conference win.
Brevard will return to action this coming Tuesday as they travel to Tigerville, S.C. to face off with North Greenville at 7 p.m. for one of their final two remaining out of conference bouts on the year.
