Lance Records Career-High Eight Service Aces; Tornados Sweep Owls

Senior Defensive Specialist Records Second-Most Service Aces in NCAA Era

BREVARD, N.C. – Senior defensive specialist Bailey Lance served a career-high eight aces, including five in a row, as the Brevard College volleyball team (7-9) cruised to a 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-15, 25-22) over fellow Western North Carolina institution Warren Wilson College (1-14) on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Lance's eight service aces were the most of the senior's three-year career at BC, and the second-most all-time in a single game in the NCAA era, coming two shy of teammate Logan Priddy's single-game record 10 aces at Agnes Scott College last season (September 3, 2022).

Senior setter/right-side hitter Kaitlyn Pressley stuffed the stat sheet with nine kills, 12 assists, and seven digs, while fellow senior outside hitter Makenna Parkins totaled a team-high 10 kills with eight digs. Ashley Hoxit added seven kills and seven digs, while Priddy distributed 18 assists and Lance added 11 digs defensively. As a team, the Tornados registered 13 service aces total in the match.

Warren Wilson was led by Kaitlyn Helinsky, who drove home a match-best 12 kills. Vera Pandolfo added 16 assists and two service aces with 12 digs for a double-double, and Lilliam DeMeglio led the defense with 13 digs.

The two sides battled through a contested first set that included five ties and two lead changes. Warren Wilson opened up a nine-point lead, 16-7 and had an 18-13 lead later on, but Brevard rallied to tie the set at 22-22. Following a Tornado service error that put the Owls back on top by one, Pressley notched a kill followed by back-to-back Lance aces that clinched a 25-23 set one triumph for Brevard.

BC led comfortably throughout the second set en route to a 25-15 victory. As BC got deeper into its rotation in the third set, the Owls were able to hang around in a frame that featured seven tied scores and five lead changes. However, with WWC on top 20-17, BC used five-consecutive points followed by Pressley's ninth kill of the match and a Warren Wilson attack error to win the deciding set, 25-22 and wrap up the home non-conference victory.

Brevard returns to USA South Conference action on Saturday when the Tornados travel to Staunton, Virginia to take part in a tri-match. BC will first face host Mary Baldwin at 12 p.m. before taking on Methodist in neutral-site play at 2 p.m.
